Why I always tell you where it comes from
I don’t tell you anything I haven’t checked. That’s the only rule this has.
If I tell you something about the body, I tell you which study it comes from. If I talk about money, where I got the figure. If I quote an old text, the verse and the chapter.
It isn’t so you’ll trust me. It’s so you don’t have to, and can go and look for yourself.
The hardest case is the spiritual books I use most. The author died in 1977, and after that his books were reissued with thousands of changes. Not typos: verses, words, meanings. There it isn’t enough to give you the verse: I have to give you the edition too, because the two don’t say the same thing.
I work from the originals. They’re at vedabase.cc, free and with no sign-up.
And if one day something I send you doesn’t match what you have, write back. I’ll show you where I got it and you judge.
Tomorrow, the small print: who this isn’t for.
