The temple fitted in an entrance hall
From Tiana town the temple moved to Barcelona city, to an attic flat on Princesa street. Fourth or fifth floor, no lift.
It was very small. So small that the class was given in the entrance hall, and the entrance hall was small too. That was the temple, and that’s where we sat to listen. Five or six people lived there, maybe seven or eight, a family with two children among them.
On Sundays there were so many of us that the door had to be left open and people stayed outside on the landing, listening from the stairs.
From there they moved to calle Rec, which was already a big place, because a lot of people were joining.
We used to go out chanting. I say we because I went on Sundays: down from Princesa towards the Ramblas, and you had to see it. People joined the kirtan along the way. Literally. Gradually, a crowd formed behind us, and on it went to Plaza Real.
That’s where the commotion started. Us in the middle, chanting, with a mass of people around watching. There was preaching, and popcorn made in the temple was handed out, in plastic bags.
The temple fitted in an entrance hall. Plaza Real didn’t.
